Man has demonstrated great capacity and knowledge in exploring the earth. Read Job 28:1-11 again and observe the great capacity, skills, and determination that man puts into mining precious metals out from great depths. Man’s explorative ability is also evident in breakthroughs in modern technology, aviation, ICT, AI, medicine, astronomy, etc. However, this explorative ability has not given man true wisdom. Wisdom is different from knowledge; whereas knowledge is the accumulation of facts, wisdom on the other hand is the ability to use those facts for man’s good and God’s glory.
Job highlighted that wisdom is not found in nature (Job 28:13,14). It is more valuable than all precious metals and cannot be bought with money or wealth (Job 28:15-19). It is hidden from the natural man and cannot be found in the realms of the dead (Job 28:20-21). Where then can wisdom be found (Job 28:12-20)? Job 28:23-28 provides us with the answer. True wisdom is only found in God. To get true wisdom we must be ready to go beyond superficial search and go deeper with God, mining the Scripture, with the intent to obey and live by it daily. What can you glean from Job 28:28?
